Billing

Billing belongs to your account, not to a workspace. Account → Billing shows your plan, what the month is costing at list prices, your payment methods and your invoices.

Plans and pay as you go are available now. Prices are on the pricing page; usage is charged with your monthly renewal.

Who pays

Each workspace's usage is billed to its billing owner: the workspace's earliest owner.

  • Your plan applies to every workspace whose billing owner you are.
  • Members who are not the billing owner never pay for that workspace, co-owners included: its usage is billed to its billing owner.

Payments and tax

Payments are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record, which charges your card, adds tax where it applies and issues receipts and invoices. It acts as our authorised reseller, and its name appears on your card statement. Card numbers go to our payment provider and never reach us.

Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax: sales tax or VAT is added where it applies. The secure checkout may show your local currency. Current prices are on the Pricing page.

The Billing page

Banners at the top of the page tell you when a payment failed (Your last payment failed), when the account is limited (Your account is limited) and when its resources are stopped (Your resources are stopped). They also tell you when it nears or reaches its spending limit, and when the card that pays expires soon or has expired.

How you pay

Shows your plan and its status, such as Past due, Limited or Complimentary, and the ways to pay. Choose Starter, Choose Pro and Choose Scale buy a plan or change it, Choose Pay as you go moves you to pay as you go, and Switch to Free cancels: see Plans and pay as you go.

Before any checkout or plan change, tick I agree to the Terms of Service and the Refund Policy: read the Terms of Service and the Refund Policy.

This month

An estimate of the calendar month so far (UTC), at list prices, grouped into:

  • Plan: the monthly fee.
  • Load balancers.
  • Kubernetes workers, by size. A highly available cluster's extra cost is included here.
  • Kubernetes storage.
  • Other metered products, as they are added.

It is an estimate and excludes tax. The invoice is the actual amount, with tax, proration and your currency.

Usage is metered by the hour and shown here as it happens. It is charged with your monthly renewal, after the month ends, not mid-month; the Billing page shows when. On pay as you go, this is also where you see what you owe against your spending limit.

Billing address

Until your billing profile is complete, the page shows a Billing address section: country, state or region, city, address and postal code. Your address is needed for tax and invoices, and saving it completes your billing profile. No card is needed for it. Change it later, along with your company name and tax ID, in Manage billing: see Billing details.

Payment methods

The card that pays your plan and usage is marked Default, with Replace to pay with another card. Other saved cards have Remove. See Payment methods.

Invoices

Every charge made for your account, with Download PDF for paid invoices. See Invoices and billing details.

Manage billing

Manage billing opens the billing portal, where you:

  • change your billing address, company name and tax ID: see Billing details
  • find past invoices

The portal link works for a short time. If it expires, open it again from the Billing page.

Cancel your plan

Select Switch to Free under How you pay. Before you confirm, a dialog lists what changes. Your plan stays until the end of the current billing period, then the account moves to Free. Until then, Keep my plan undoes it. See Cancel a plan.

Complimentary accounts

Some accounts and workspaces are complimentary. The Billing page then says Complimentary, with Not billed — complimentary, or Invoiced at $0 (100% discount) for accounts that get a $0 invoice. Usage is still counted and shown at list prices, so you know what the month would cost. You are never charged, and you need no checkout and no payment method.

Notifications

Billing notices are emailed to the billing owner, in English or Arabic per their language setting, and added as a notification in the console that links to Account → Billing. They cover cards that are expiring or have expired, failed and recovered payments, an account that is past due, restricted, about to be suspended or suspended, plan changes, canceled subscriptions, annual renewals and the spending limit. Some also go to the owners and admins of the billing owner's workspaces. Notifications lists each one.
