Kubernetes pricing and usage
Kubernetes is priced pay-as-you-go: what a cluster runs is metered by the hour and billed monthly, from its workers, whether its control plane is highly available, and the volumes its claims create. On a plan, workers use your plan's resources instead. Nothing is billed yet.
Prices
| Per hour | Per month | |
|---|---|---|
| Free worker | — | No charge |
| Small worker (2 vCPU, 2 GB, 20 GB) | $0.002 | $1.46 |
| Medium worker (2 vCPU, 4 GB, 40 GB) | $0.0035 | $2.56 |
| Large worker (4 vCPU, 8 GB, 80 GB) | $0.007 | $5.11 |
| Standard control plane | — | Included |
| Highly available control plane, all three nodes | $0.006 | $4.38 |
| Volume, per GB | — | $0.04 |
Prices are in US dollars, and a month is counted as 730 hours.
How usage is counted
Usage is recorded every minute and counted by the hour, in UTC. A partial hour counts as a whole hour.
- Workers: each hour counts, for each size, the most workers of that size running in the cluster at any point in that hour. A worker counts from when it starts until it is removed. One still waiting for capacity, one that failed, and one being removed do not count, and a worker the platform replaces for you is not counted twice.
- Control plane: a highly available cluster counts one control-plane hour for every hour its control plane runs. The standard control plane is not counted.
- Volumes: each volume counts its provisioned size, in GB, for every hour it exists, whether or not a pod is using it. A kept
sahabti-retainvolume counts until you delete it, also after its cluster is gone.
Free workers are listed with their hours at no charge, so you can see them.
Where to see it
- Create wizard: the Control plane step shows the price of a highly available control plane, and the Node pools step the price of each worker size and a Pay-as-you-go estimate for each pool and for the cluster. Review adds them up.
- Add node pool and Edit: the dialog shows the price per worker and a Pay-as-you-go estimate for the pool's workers.
- Overview: a cluster's Pay-as-you-go estimate per month for its workers, control plane and volumes as they are now.
- Usage: the Metered card lists, for each month, each cluster's worker hours by size and control-plane hours, and each volume's GB-hours with its cluster, each with its estimated cost. A deleted cluster's or volume's lines stay, marked Deleted.
The API returns the same lines from GET /v1/usage/ledger, and the agent tools from get_usage_ledger. An API token sees the Kubernetes lines with kubernetes:read, and the load balancer lines with loadbalancer:read.
Plans
On a plan, workers use your plan's resources instead of these prices: workers of a paid size and volumes count against your plan's quota, as Plans and limits describes.
