Spending limits and restrictions
Two things limit an account: a payment that stays unpaid, and, on pay as you go, what you owe reaching the spending limit. Being limited never stops what already runs: only a payment left unpaid past the date the Billing page shows does that.
Payment failed
If a payment fails, the billing owner, and the owners and admins of their workspaces, get an email and a console notification. Our payment provider retries automatically over the following days. Meanwhile the account is Past due, and the Billing page says Your last payment failed, with the date limits start.
To pay at once, select Replace next to the card that pays: the overdue amount is paid with the new card. See Payment methods.
If you need time to sort out a payment, support can keep your account in good standing meanwhile.
Restricted after 14 days
If the payment is still due, new resources with a price are blocked from a date the Billing page shows: by default 14 days after the failed payment, and never with less than 3 days' notice. The account is then limited, and the Billing page says Your account is limited:
- New resources with a price are refused.
- Each workspace you own falls back to the Free quota.
- Nothing running is stopped, and no data is deleted.
The past due notice gives this date too. Paying, by replacing the card, restores your plan at once, and you get an email that the payment is recovered.
When every retry fails
If the payment stays unpaid, running resources are stopped on a date the Billing page shows: by default 14 days after the limit starts. We warn you 7 days and 1 day before. Once they are stopped, the Billing page says Your resources are stopped.
- Your data is kept for at least 60 days after that, and is never deleted automatically.
- Paying, by replacing the card, restores everything at once and restarts what was stopped.
Free accounts
Free accounts without a payment method have hard limits, the Free quota, and are never charged. See Free.
Spending limit
On pay as you go, a spending limit caps what you owe. Support can also set one for your account.
- It starts low for new accounts, and grows as you pay your bills. Support can raise it on request.
- The Billing page shows what you owe against the limit.
- From 80% of the limit, you are warned on the Billing page, by email and in the console.
- At 100%, new resources with a price are refused, and the Billing page says Spending limit reached. Everything already running keeps running, and is billed.
Notifications
Each notice is an email to the billing owner, in English or Arabic per their language setting, and a notification in the console that links to Account → Billing. Some also go to the owners and admins of your workspaces, as marked.
